Hearing Out Loud Online Course
Live an EMPOWERED life with hearing loss!

Maybe you…
are beyond frustrated trying to get people to understand that hearing aids (and CIs) don’t fix hearing, and you are doing the best you can (and that’s never enough).
find yourself retreating more than ever, and the isolation is tearing you down.
feel like you don’t fit in anywhere…you’re not hearing enough to understand spoken conversations, and you’re not deaf enough to be a part of the signing Deaf community. You’re stuck in the middle with no one that understands.
are feeling lonely, but turn down invitations to social engagements because communicating is just too exhausting for you.
are struggling to find the courage to tell people about your hearing loss and feel anxiety every time you miss something they said.
But, what if I told you there is a better way? That you CAN confidently live a socially abundant life without compromise, regardless of your degree of hearing loss, simply by giving yourself the time and space you deserve to
-
consider the EMOTIONAL IMPACT of hearing loss and then GET YOUR ROADMAP to MOVE CONFIDENTLY FORWARD,
-
FIGHT your INTERNALIZED STIGMA,
-
CONFIDENTLY DISCLOSE your hearing loss CLEARLY and EFFECTIVELY in ANY SITUATION,
-
Set HEALTHY SOCIAL and EXPERIENTIAL BOUNDARIES that PROTECT your ENERGY, and
-
become an EMPOWERED self-advocate who knows what they need and no longer says, “pardon me?”
And you can do this
…without spending thousands of $$$ on the latest greatest hearing technology,
…without leaving the comfort of your home for in-person support groups,
…without reading book after book of tips that never seem to address the emotional struggle you’ve endured over the years.
As a matter of fact, I know that this strategy works because it wasn’t that long ago that I carried the weight of my hearing loss like an albatross, allowing it to prevent me from attending social gatherings, feeling embarrassed to speak up about misunderstanding, and being overcome with exhaustion after a day of heavy listening and lipreading.
Living with my hearing loss is still challenging, but I am now a confident and unapologetic self-advocate, and participate on my terms in all the things that bring me joy! My friends and family know what they need to do to be an effective communicator with me, and that the responsibility for our successful conversation does NOT lie solely on my hearing aids and my extra lipreading effort!
This is 100% possible for you too! But you don’t have to take 3 decades, like I did, to figure it all out for yourself!

"I was born with a progressive severe to profound hearing loss, had two sisters with a similar loss and my best friend had a loss that was nearly a copy of mine. My parents were dynamic and did all they could to insure we grew up to become well adapted adults. Despite all these enormous advantages, I wish that I had been a beneficiary of Katherine Rybak’s course.
"Hearing and hearing loss are incredibly complex subjects, far more complex than the popular view that one either hears or does not hear. She teaches the basics about hearing loss, but more importantly she understands the intrapersonal and emotional struggles of hearing loss and presents diverse ways to manage those struggles. The emotional difficulties many of us with hearing loss experience are rooted in how we do or don’t successfully communicate and relate with others.
"Katherine’s work is ground-breaking in that she goes beyond the fundamentals about hearing loss to teach us how to interact with others and self-advocate in a way that is positive, promotes both respect and self-respect. Some of us learn how to do this even without this course, but it is usually inefficient, can be painful, and takes years of trial and error."
Jack Spear, PhD and President of the Madison, WI Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America

"Katherine is a knowledgeable and caring educator and advocate for people with all levels of hearing loss. She is always up to date on the latest technology available to enhance the lives of her students, and breaks down information so that it is not at all scary. I recently got hearing aids, and was partly influenced by Katherine's modeling of hearing aid acceptance and use over the years."
Kathleen T.

"At my last check up, I found out that hearing aids (even though I was reluctant to admit it ) would be beneficial. The audiologist gave me about three choices, and a little information on each. I went straight to Katherine! She help me to choose what would be the best fit for me, and she helped me understand the features of each choice. She was able to explain in detail how I could set them up; music, directional focus and other adjustments. I did not have to guess about any of these things. I knew Katherine would give me the best expert advice based on her experience, research and education. She took the extra time to answer all my questions and even a few I had not thought of."
